Make Your Car Sound Like a Lamborghini Gallardo for only 99¢ [Videos]

True, there are some ways to make your car's engine sound more sonorous, but there's really so much you can do for example to a Chevy Aveo or a Toyota Prius.

Furthermore, with a starting price of 99 cents, 2XCL Games' new XLR8 (get it; accelerate) sounds like a sweet bargain compared to the cost(s) of an actual mechanical component.

The XLR8 is an app available for Apple's iPhone and iPad as well as Android phones and tablets that promises to make your vehicle sound like an exotic Italian supercar, a muscle car or even a racing model.

After you download the application and place the phone in your vehicle, you simply connect the device to the audio system and you're ready to go – just don’t forget to roll up your windows…

"Once secured inside your vehicle, XLR8 uses the accelerometers of your device to realistically respond to acceleration, braking and cornering forces," explains the software provider. "It supports both cabled and wireless Bluetooth audio connections to your car stereo."

Three brand new 2012 Camaro ZL1 coupes parked together in the same place isn't a usual sight, even more so if they let their 580-horsepower supercharged V8 engines play a muscular tune.

Opel Enigma is a Design Concept Based on the Chevy Camaro by David Cardoso

It’s no secret that Opel and sister company Vauxhall are currently weathering a severe crisis with rumors of plant closures both in Germany and the UK as the economic turmoil across Europe is taking its toll on most automakers.

That said, any plans Opel might have had for a two-door coupe will most likely be put on ice for the time being if not canned altogether.

But it never hurts to imagine what a sporty coupe with an Opel (or Vauxhall) badge would look like. Enter the world of an old acquaintance of ours, designer David Cardoso, who sent Carscoop these renderings of the Opel Enigma concept study.

The GT coupe model was designed to use the rear-wheel drive platform of the Chevrolet Camaro, but we'll let Dave do the rest of the talking on the Enigma:

Chevy Closes the Gap Between Camaro SS and ZL1 with New 1LE, Priced Under $40,000

If there's one thing GM knows to do well, that's to cover as many niches as possible with the same model.

If you take a look at the Camaro's current range, you'll see an evident price and performance gap between the hardcore, 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1 and the tamer 426-horsepower SS.

GM now wants to close that gap the new 2013 Camaro 1LE, which will also offer the company a more direct rival (price-wise) to the Ford Mustang Boss 302.

Poll: Which Previous Generation Camaro Should Inspire the Design of the Next Model?

While it's true that the Ford Mustang is the vehicle that reheated the pony car segment, forcing both GM and Chrysler to resuscitate two of their historic nameplates, it's the Chevrolet Camaro that has taken the sales lead grabbing 42 percent of the rear-wheel drive performance coupe market in 2011 with 88,249 deliveries.

The Ford Mustang comes in second with 70,438 units and the Dodge Challenger third with 39,534 deliveries. This year, the Camaro has about 40 percent of the market with Ford trying to catch up with approximately 35 percent.

This makes planning its successor all the more difficult as Al Oppenheiser, Camaro's chief engineer, admitted to Automotive News Product Editor, Rick Kanz.

The fifth generation of the Camaro was launched into the market in 2010 and a replacement is due in the fall of 2015. According to Oppenheiser, the team involved in the development and the design of the sixth generation Camaro, has many issued to solve, one of which is weight reduction.
